Walkie Talkie Trash Walk for Earth Day

Hello Hikers!

On Friday April 23rd at 10:00 am we are going to participate in the Earth Day Billion Acts of Green Celebration by walking along Highway 106 and collecting trash from alongside both sides of the highway from Hood Canal School to Alderbrook Resort and Spa. We'll go in groups so the walk isn't too long for all of us to do in one hike. One group will leave from Hood Canal School, and will walk to Hunter Farms. Another group will walk from Hunter Farms to the Union Marina, and two groups will leave from Union Marina and will go in two directions - one up McReavy to Dalby Rd and then along 106 to Alderbrook. The other group leaving from the Union Marina will walk along Highway 106 to Alderbrook. We will then all convene at Charles and Valerie Johnson's driveway where the trash will be sorted into the various recyclable categories. Frances Barnes has offered her pickup truck to transport the treasure to Wilson Recycling, and whatever isn't recyclable will be taken to the dump in Shelton. Walkie Talkies will purchase latex gloves and trash bags for us to use and will cover the expense of the trash taken to the dump, and will use money from our little treasury for this purpose. We'll plan to have gloves and trash bags available at each of the starting places the morning of the walk. A good item to bring along if you have one is a pointed stick or a "grabber". If you don't have these things, it's not a problem, just come and enjoy the fun of doing something good for our community in celebration of Earth Day.

If you want to eat at Johnson's after the walk, plan to bring a sack lunch and coffee and tea will be provided. If you prefer to eat lunch out in groups, the Union Square Deli is a good place, as well as Alderbrook Golf and Yacht Club clubhouse, and for a more expensive option at Alderbrook Resort and Spa. Your choice!

There is a group already planning to leave from Hood Canal School, so think about and, if possible, pre-arrange yourselves into groups leaving from Hunter Farms or the Marina.

If there are questions, reply to the Walkie Talkies email account at walkietalkies1983@yahoo.com and your message will be replied to.

In the meantime, Happy Hiking!
